A History of The Old Cart house
| The Old Cart house was built by Lady Elizabeth Wilbraham in 1690 and has a wealth of Queen Anne trusses and hand made Cheshire bricks. Lady Elizabeth was the daughter and heiress of Edward Milton of Weston, and she married Sir Thomas Wilbraham of Woodhey. After their marriage she built the Chapel and a new house at Woodhey including The Old Cart House, barns, and a large walled garden.
Woodhey itself is five miles outside the lovely, historic town of Nantwich and seventeen miles from the Roman walled city of Chester. The Old Cart House is approached by a quiet country lane, and is surrounded by open countryside. The farmhouse, barns and The Old Cart House, fronting the court yard together with its walled garden are listed Grade 2, as being of special architectural interest, and the Chapel is listed Grade 1. AccommodationThe Old Cart House was tastefully restored in 2002, its unique features include original glazed islets & has beautiful views over the lake which is available for fishing and perfect for a lazy picnic. The master bedroom has a four poster bed and ensuite bathroom. There are also two further twin bedrooms with a separate bathroom, shower room, and dressing room. The hallway and stairs lead into the large open plan living room with wonderful views, comfortable chairs, furniture and a wood burning stove, TV, video and stereo. The kitchen has beautiful cream units, a dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer. There is also a washer- dryer and high chairs and cots available on request, but please bring your own bedding for the cot.. Bedding, towels, a welcome pack and fresh flowers are all provided for your arrival.
